Wildlife & Nature

Arena Alta is situated within a thriving jungle habitat. All four different species of monkeys inhabit the canopy, and vibrant flora and fauna can be found nearly everywhere you look. Sloths can often be seen hanging out in almond trees, and the air is filled with the sounds of green parrots, macaws, and toucans.

World-Class Surfing

Arena Alta is just 250 steps to the gorgeous beaches and super consistent beach break of Zancudo. Zancudo boasts a sand bottom with nice open faces; both left and rights. It can get hollow on the right conditions. The spot is best surfed at low and high tides with nice swells coming from the south and southwest.

Of course, you have one of the longest left points in the world, Pavones, just a short drive away. Surfers travel from around the world just to surf this epic point break. There is another point break that rivals Pavones just down the beach from Arena Alta.

World-Class Fishing

Arena Alta is located next to some of the most productive sport fishing grounds in the world. Many different species of fish can be caught from the beach including Roosterfish, Jack Crevalle, Kubera Snapper, and Spanish Mackerel. Kayak and boat fishing can also be productive, with Yellowfin Tuna, Sailfish, Mahi, and Marlin farther offshore. The town of Zancudo is also home to the world-renown Zancudo Lodge. More than 70 IGFA World Records have been set by boats fishing out of the lodge.

Tours & Attractions

There’s always plenty to do at the Arena Alta Reserve! We offer guided walking tours of the reserve, kayak river tours, jungle and beach horseback riding, and river fishing. There are also many excursion opportunities available in the area surrounding Arena Alta. The reserve is a birding hot spot, and the nearby beaches are great for surfing and fishing. We can also connect you with yoga classes, fishing and snorkeling charters, whale watching, and much more.

Neighborhood

Arena Alta is located at the entrance of Zancudo, about 20 km south of Golfito in the Puntarenas Province of Costa Rica. This sleepy little town is the perfect location for a second or first home; offering nature lovers, anglers, backpackers, surfers and families a fantastic getaway to an area that is far from the “hustle and bustle” and all-inclusive resorts.
