El Silencio
Playa El Silencio, Km 43 Panamericana Sur, Punta Hermosa, Lima, Peru
About This Break
El Silencio is a fickle but fun surf spot in a broad bay on the northern side of Punta Hermosa's surf zone, about 43 km south of Lima. The named wave is primarily a quick, hollow right breaking over boulders and rock close to shore, while the broader cove can produce additional shorebreak and wedging peaks. When the swell lines up, the right has a sucky takeoff, barrel potential and a short performance wall before becoming softer toward the sandy inside.
Interestingly, the beach's name is tied directly to surfing: a local account says surfers began riding waves on the northern side of the bay in the late 1960s and called the place El Silencio to help keep the spot secret.
