About This Break

Tikus, also known as The Rat, is one of the more approachable reef breaks in the Mentawai Islands. Located near Simakakang Island off northern Sipora, this playful left-hander offers peeling walls, forgiving takeoffs, and multiple sections that appeal to intermediate surfers, longboarders, and confident beginners under suitable conditions.

Unlike the heavy barrels that have made the Mentawais famous, Tikus typically produces smaller, more manageable waves. The reef offers several takeoff zones, allowing surfers to enjoy long, workable shoulders and opportunities for turns. When larger Indian Ocean swells arrive, however, the wave becomes faster and more powerful, occasionally producing hollow sections.

Tikus is particularly appealing for surfers seeking a relaxed tropical surf experience without the intensity of the region's more demanding breaks. Its proximity to local surf resorts and other North Sipora waves makes it an excellent addition to a Mentawai surf itinerary.
