About This Break

Telo Islands, North Sumatra, Indonesia

A fast, powerful and hollow right-hand reef break for advanced surfers looking for serious Telo barrels.

Coffins is one of four right-hand reef breaks along the famous Monkeys Point in the southern Telo Islands. Sitting alongside Monkeys, New School and Outer Monkeys, Coffins is the most consequential member of the group.

The wave draws quickly over a shallow coral reef, producing a fast barrel almost immediately from takeoff before racing down the line. When conditions line up, Coffins can become remarkably clean and hollow — but making the entire wave isn't guaranteed. Clean exits from the barrel can be difficult, adding to both the challenge and appeal of this powerful Indonesian right.

This is not a beginner or intermediate wave. Coffins is best left to advanced and expert surfers comfortable with fast takeoffs, shallow tropical reefs and high-speed barrel riding.
