About This Break
Beginners Bay is the protected, mellow surf break tucked beneath Magnific Rock / Punta Sardina at the southern end of the Popoyo–Guasacate surf zone. The rocky headland shelters the bay from much of the energy of larger southern swells, creating slower, softer waves than nearby Popoyo Main Break, Outer Reef and Santana. Local sources describe the signature wave as a long, mushy left wrapping off the point, with additional softer left-and-right peaks through the bay.
This is one of the Popoyo area's primary learn-to-surf waves. The paddle is relatively easy, the takeoff is forgiving, and smaller waves can peel slowly enough for beginners to progress from whitewater to riding green waves. Longboarders also get plenty out of it. During major swell events the point can become larger and more rippable while remaining considerably more protected than the exposed reefs nearby.
For surfers looking to buy, sell or invest around Popoyo and Nicaragua's Emerald Coast, International Surf Properties connects the global surf community with real estate in the places surfers want to live. This area is one of them!
