About This Break
A fast, punchy right-hand reef break combining steep open faces with two quality barrel sections.
New Schools is one of the four right-hand reef breaks that make up the Monkeys Point complex in the southern Telo Islands. Sitting alongside Monkeys, Coffins and Outer Monkeys, New Schools offers a more performance-oriented experience than the user-friendly Monkeys while being somewhat more approachable than the shallow, consequential barrels of Coffins.
The wave features a quick takeoff that can immediately lead into the first barrel section. From there, New Schools walls up, providing opportunities for powerful turns and snaps before setting up for another hollow section farther down the reef.
On a medium-sized swell with the right wind and tide, New Schools can be one of the most entertaining high-performance waves in the area.
Monkeys Point Complex
New Schools is part of an unusually concentrated group of four quality right-hand reef breaks:
Monkeys — Coffins — New Schools — Outer Monkeys
When a medium swell reaches the southern Telos, all four waves can be working simultaneously.
Monkeys provides the more forgiving option, Coffins delivers the serious shallow-water barrel, New Schools provides high-performance walls and barrels, while Outer Monkeys takes advantage of greater swell exposure.
This variety makes the Monkeys Point complex one of the most versatile surf zones in the southern Telo Islands.
Surf. Stay. Own.
