El Faro / Punta Maldonado

Punta Maldonado is a remote left-hand reef break on Mexico’s Costa Chica, just west of the Oaxaca–Guerrero border. This is an exposed Pacific setup rather than a sheltered beach wave: long-period southern groundswell reaches a rocky reef and produces a predominantly left-breaking wave, with the best combination being SSW swell and NE offshore wind.

Punta Maldonado, also locally known as El Faro, is a small fishing community in the municipality of San Nicolás, surrounded by an exposed rocky coastline and tropical Pacific water. Geological research independently confirms the rocky, high-energy nature of the shoreline, describing Punta Maldonado as an exposed coast with intense wave action.
