About this break

Punta Sal is a warm-water point break on Peru’s far northern coastline, offering a scenic and comparatively uncrowded alternative to the better-known surf zones around Máncora. The exposed point receives clean groundswells and comes alive when northwest swell energy combines with offshore winds from the east-southeast, producing clean, organized waves wrapping along the point.

The break is fairly consistent, although wave size and quality vary considerably with swell direction and season. Punta Sal’s tropical setting, warm Pacific water and typically light crowds make it an appealing stop for surfers exploring northern Peru. Rocks are the primary hazard, so surfers should pay attention to water depth, entry and exit points and changing conditions around the point.
