Rio Tapextla

Rio Tapextla is a remote, exposed rivermouth break on Oaxaca’s western Pacific coast, considerably farther from Puerto Escondido than Chacahua or Punta Encomienda. The mouth of the Río Tapextla creates shifting sandbars that produce both left- and right-hand waves, with the best conditions arriving on long-period SSW groundswell and NE offshore wind.

The appeal here is less about a perfectly predictable point wave and more about an uncrowded, powerful Oaxaca rivermouth with open-ocean exposure. Sand movement and river flow can alter the banks, so wave shape varies considerably from one season to another.
