Where is Cloudbreak?
Cloudbreak is an offshore reef in Fiji's Mamanuca Islands, a short boat ride from Tavarua and Namotu islands and a longer one from the mainland marinas near Nadi. There is no land nearby — every session starts and ends in a boat.
Can anyone surf Cloudbreak?
Yes. For years it was reserved for guests of the Tavarua resort, but Fiji opened its surf breaks to everyone in 2010. Boats run from the island resorts and from the mainland. It is a heavy, shallow left over live coral and is strictly for experienced surfers.
When does Cloudbreak work best?
The southern-hemisphere winter, roughly April to October, when south-westerly groundswell hits the reef. Early mornings before the south-east trade winds pick up are usually the cleanest.
