About This Break

La Punta occupies the southern headland of Playa Zicatela and is Puerto Escondido's famous left-hand point break. The headland refracts incoming southern swell, taking some of the raw energy out of Zicatela and reorganizing it into long lefts with barrel sections, steep walls, ramps and workable shoulders. This is perfect for intermediate-to-advanced surfers and gives an ideal range from chest-high through double-overhead.

The wave is dramatically more approachable than Mexican Pipeline, but don't mistake that for uncrowded or easy. La Punta has one of Puerto Escondido's most concentrated lineups, and ISP rates the crowd factor Heavy and local vibe Intimidating.
