About This Break

Punta Mango is one of El Salvador’s premier right-hand point breaks, hidden along the remote eastern coastline near Las Flores and El Cuco. A solid south or southwest groundswell wraps into a cobblestone point, producing a steep takeoff, powerful open face and one of the hollower right-hand barrels in the country. Unlike the more forgiving Las Flores, Punta Mango needs meaningful swell before it really comes alive; when it does, expect fast walls, heavy tube sections and long rides that reward confident barrel surfers. Difficult access by boat or 4WD helps keep numbers manageable, adding a genuine surf-adventure feel to the experience.

Cobblestones and rocks; steep and powerful takeoff; heavy barrel sections; current around the upper point; difficult access; limited services; and rapidly changing conditions once wind comes up. Smaller surf can break dangerously close to the rocks, while large south swells demand strong paddling, positioning and barrel-riding ability. Access is traditionally by boat from the Las Flores/El Cuco area, although some overland access is possible by 4WD.
