What are the best surf spots in Peniche?
Peniche is a former island about 90 km north of Lisbon, and its peninsula faces both north and south, so one side is almost always offshore. The main spots are Supertubos, the hollow beach break on the south side at Praia do Medão; Molhe Leste, the right off the harbour wall just along the beach from it; Baleal, the beach breaks either side of the Baleal isthmus; Lagide, a left-hand reef beside Baleal; and Consolação to the south, a mix of reef and sand that works when the wind ruins everywhere else.
When are the waves best in Peniche?
Autumn through spring, roughly September to April, when North Atlantic groundswell arrives most consistently. Summer is smaller and suits learners, especially on the sheltered south side of Baleal.
