The Tree Playa Hermosa

The Tree, locally known as El Almendro, is a distinct peak along the famous Playa Hermosa surf zone just south of Jacó. The name comes from the huge almond tree beside the old beachfront road that traditionally served as the landmark for the break. It sits roughly 400 meters to 1 km south of Backyards, depending on which access point is used as the reference.

The wave itself is a powerful black-sand beach break producing fast lefts and rights. Compared with some of Playa Hermosa's rougher shorebreak peaks, The Tree breaks in slightly deeper water and can offer cleaner, more defined walls. It's particularly good from head-high to double-overhead, with hollow sections and barrel potential, but larger swells and low tide tend to turn it into closeouts.
