About This Break

Lance's Left breaks across the channel from Lance's Right (HTs), off Katiet village at the southern end of Sipora island in Indonesia's Mentawai Islands. Both waves carry the name of Lance Knight, the first surfer to ride them.

Where the Right is a fast, shallow barrel, the Left gives longer, more open walls with barrel sections, and it is the usual alternative when the Right is too big or too crowded. It works on the same Indian Ocean groundswell, best between April and October.

The Mentawai Islands are reached by boat from Padang on mainland Sumatra. Browse surf resorts, land and homes for sale in the Mentawai Islands and across Indonesia on International Surf Properties.
