About This Break
Los Perros Point is a fickle, powerful right-hand point break at the northern end of the Playa Colorado/Hacienda Iguana coastline, adjoining Rancho Santana's Playa Los Perros. Unlike the gentle beach-break waves inside Playa Los Perros—which Rancho Santana uses for beginner lessons—the actual Los Perros Point requires a substantial swell before it properly turns on.
When a large SW swell arrives with enough west in the direction, energy rebounds and wraps around the rocky point to produce long, open right-hand walls, with powerful slabby barrel sections. This is one of those rare Nicaragua waves that can become an attractive option when many more exposed breaks are overwhelmed by the same swell.
