Manzanillo

Manzanillo is a beautiful and relatively secluded left-hand point break on Nicaragua’s Emerald Coast in Tola, breaking beneath the dramatic headland at Playa Manzanillo. A well-angled SW groundswell wraps around the point and produces a long, clean left with a defined outside section, open carving walls and faster sections as it runs toward the inside. When the swell direction is exactly right, Manzanillo can be one of the standout waves in southern Nicaragua; when the angle is wrong, however, it can become soft or sectiony, which accounts for its reputation as a somewhat fickle wave. Punta Manzanillo as a fairly consistent exposed point break, with SW swell, NE offshore wind and mid tide producing the best conditions.

The wave's setting is a major part of the appeal: rugged cliffs, tropical vegetation, warm Pacific water and limited access give a good Manzanillo session a distinctly remote feel.
